KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Nov. 30) -- As the Super Chevy Show says goodbye to a successful 2010 and says hello to 2011, it does so with high expectations on its 31st season, which begins in April and will feature 12 events, including stops at four new venues. The highlight is expected to come in back-to-back weeks when the national touring series returns to the Pacific Northwest with a visit to Spokane County Raceway in Airway Heights, Wash. on Aug. 26-28, then travels north of the border, making a stop at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on Sept. 2-4. "Spokane County Raceway has always had a huge Canadian contingent, both spectators and participants, so we feel it makes sense that the events are scheduled back-to-back," said Cindy Gibbs-Arias, Spokane County Raceway manager. "We have a great working relationship with Castrol Raceway and intend to work together to make these events a huge success." Several changes have been made to the track, including safety improvements on the venue's three racing courses - a dragstrip, oval and road course. "We're very excited that the Super Chevy Show's return to Canada will be held at Castrol Raceway," said Rob Reeves, Castrol Raceway managing partner. "It's the perfect addition to our season with the event taking place during the September long weekend, which traditionally is one of the best weekends of the summer.The Super Chevy Show event in August is expected to be the top attraction on its 2011 schedule. It will be the series' first trip to the Northwest in nearly 10 years. "It's shaping up to be a great year for SCR, including the announcement of adding Super Chevy Show to our schedule," said Gibbs-Arias, whose father, Steve Gibbs, was the long-time director of racing operations for NHRA, as well as spending time as now-defunct Irwindale Raceway's general manager. "It's been a while since SCS has made a stop in the Northwest, so the region is all a buzz with this exciting news. The feedback from the local car clubs has been overwhelmingly positive. "Charlie and Ron have stepped in and have taken SCR to a whole new level. We are excited for the fans, racers and car enthusiasts across the Northwest to be able to check out the much-improved facility." There is also a a lot of anticipation for the race at Castrol Raceway, which is hosting its first Super Chevy Show event. It's another coup for a venue that is considered to be Canada's premier motorsports facility. Castrol, in addition to the Super Chevy Show, will also host the IHRA River Cree Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals in June and the World of Outlaws Oil City Cup in late August. The track also hosts Canada's largest jet car show, Hot August Night, ever August. "We're looking forward to working closely with car clubs from across Western Canada, and since the event is taking place in Alberta, we anticipate the Chevy truck market will be a really big part of the show." |

IHRA ANNOUNCES DIVISION 6 IN SUMMIT SUPERSERIES
Tracks in western Canada and the United States comprise new division
NORWALK, Ohio (November 29, 2010) – To accompany its rapid expansion westward, the International Hot Rod Association is proud to announce the formation of a new division in the Summit SuperSeries made up of tracks in western Canada and the north west portion of the United States.
Beginning in 2011, 10 tracks in three Canadian provinces and four U.S. states will begin immediate competition in Division 6 with the Summit SuperSeries grassroots racing series. Each track will be eligible to compete in the Summit Team Finals which will be held next season at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta.
"After meeting with these tracks and figuring out what was most important for them, we quickly realized that our sportsman programs really lined up with the goals of these tracks," said Skooter Peaco, IHRA VP of Race Operations. "Focusing on sportsman racing and the opportunity the Summit SuperSeries and Summit Team Finals brings to this region is unprecedented.
"It is a big step for us as we continue to grow IHRA's footprint. It further solidifies IHRA as the sanction organization of record in Canada, which is great, but most importantly it opens up a whole new dimension to our sportsman programs and creates opportunity for tracks and competitors in that region to create a division and programs that work for them.
"The opportunity to start a new division doesn't come along every day and we are proud that these tracks chose IHRA due to our commitment to sportsman racing programs."
The inclusion of the new division is a big step forward for the IHRA as it expands beyond its traditional borders and further cements its status as the sanctioning body of choice in Canada. Division 6 will also give tracks in the western portion of North America a chance to partake in the top grassroots racing program in the country.
The newly formed division will consist of Castrol Raceway and Race City Motorsports Park in Alberta, Gimli Motorsports Park in Manitoba, Thunder Mountain Raceway, Prince George Motorsports Park and Nl'akapxm Eagle Motorplex in British Columbia and Rocky Mountain Raceways, Alaska Raceway Park, Magic City International Dragway and Philips County Motorsports Dragstrip in the United States.
"Forming this new division has been in the making for two years and it is great to finally see it come to life," said Phil Gingerich, IHRA Director of Track Development. "This will provide the west coast exposure to the benefits of IHRA racing and could result in more new tracks joining in the future."
IHRA officials also haven't ruled out the possibility of expanding the division to include the Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am series in the near future. For now, however, the focus is on getting the founding tracks of the new division up and running as members of the Summit SuperSeries and continue to grow the division over the next few years.
"This is a huge step and we want to make sure we deliver the programs that these member tracks want," Peaco said. "We're looking forward to the Summit SuperSeries growing by leaps and bounds in that region, as well as presenting that first every Summit Team Finals Ironman to the inaugural champions."

IHRA ANNOUNCES FIRST QUARTER SUMMIT PRO-AM RACES
Stops at Immokalee, Dallas and Rockingham highlight first part of schedule
Norwalk, Ohio, November 24, 2010 – The International Hot Rod Association announced today its first quarter races for the 2011 Summit Pro-Am season which includes stops at Immokalee Regional Raceway, Dallas Raceway and Rockingham Dragway.
Immokalee Regional Raceway in southern Florida will open the 2011 Summit Pro-Am season the weekend of February 4-6 with the first race of the Division 2 season the weekend following the Palm Beach Nitro Jam at Palm Beach International Raceway which is scheduled for January 28-29.
Division 4 will get its Summit Pro-Am season underway the weekend of March 11-13 at Dallas Raceway and Division 9 will kick off its season at Rockingham Dragway the weekend of March 25-27.
Complete Summit Pro-Am divisional schedules will be announced in the coming weeks, in addition to the 2011 Nitro Jam schedule. Visit www.ihra.com regularly for constant updates.
QUAKER CITY RETURNS TO IHRA FAMILY
Norwalk, Ohio, November 24, 2010 – The International Hot Rod Association is pleased to welcome Quaker City Motorsports Park back to the IHRA as the latest track to join the rapidly growing IHRA family.
With the recent purchase of Quaker City Motorsports Park finally complete, Norm Fox and his family plan to perform a number of facility upgrades and are looking forward to an exciting future with the IHRA.
"It's great to have Quaker back in the IHRA fold," said Division Director Jon O'Neal . "With the long standing history of the facility with the IHRA, it seemed like Quaker coming back with a new owner was only natural."
The facility, located in Salem, Ohio, is in for quite an overhaul with plans from Fox to upgrade the timing system, track surface and pit area. The first step was a name change from Quaker City Raceway to Quaker City Motorsports Park to foreshadow the upcoming changes to incorporate additional motorsports elements to the grounds in the future.
Fox, along with his family, operate Fox Auto Salvage & Parts Inc and are excited to dive head first into keeping drag racing alive at the long standing facility. Knowing the challenge ahead, Fox is excited to see the outpouring of support from local racers and fans to help keep drag racing alive at Quaker City.
"Even before the deal was done, I was swarmed by people," Fox said. "It's great to see so many people excited that the track will stay alive and have a fresh start."
